AMANDA PAIGE

United States

biography

In our ever-automated world, human touch is on the endangered list. Houston based artist, Amanda Paige, works with ancient metal fabrication and hand casting techniques to imbue each piece with character and life. Inspiration comes from the omniscient lens of nature’s footprints and personal experience. She enjoys following the curiosities that ignite the fire of motivation. Filtered through a playful, contemporary perspective, her work is largely conceptual as she aims to blur the lines between sculpture, adornment & social interaction. Amanda’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

*Most Recently, her work has been exhibited at Venice Design Week for “I Don’t Shine” and Milano Jewelry Week.

Creator's Perspective

My work largely revolves around themes of depth, flow, resilience and control.

Most of my inspiration comes from life. I’m enthusiastically curious so inspiration can come from almost anywhere. Art, architecture, nature, science and sociology are all deep wells that continue to feed my work.

Inspiration and ideas are plentiful, thankfully. It’s the editing or deciding which ideas to pursue that can be tricky. Because of this, I’ve learned that listening to the nuanced cues within my body and staying grounded are integral pieces of my practice. The best inspiration begins with a “lightning strike” of inspiration that’s accompanied by a boost of energy which initiates action and a momentum that drives the work to fruition.

Some of my favorite work involves setting up outcomes that can’t be strictly controlled. The element of surprise, challenge, and sense of co-creating with liminal states is endlessly thrilling.
